The Registered Behavior Technician™ (RBT®) is a paraprofessional who practices under the close and ongoing supervision of either a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® (BCaBA®), or other individual meeting the BACB® requirements for noncertified RBT supervisors.RBTs, also referred to as behavioral health technicians, are paraprofessionals who implement applied behavior analysis (ABA) treatment plans under the guidance of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), who design, assess, and modify client programs. From there, most RBTs will go on to work one-on-one with the client.To earn RBT certification, you must meet certain eligibility requirements and pass the RBT certification exam. These requirements were established to ensure that entry-level behavior technicians have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for delivering behavior analysis services under the supervision of a qualified supervisor.
